Ampelos

About

A love letter to wine, written slowly.

Ampelos is a personal project, and it is very close to my heart. It is an interactive, deeply researched atlas for anyone who has ever held a glass and wondered where it came from: the grapes, the places, the centuries of people behind every bottle. I am building it one piece at a time, and I have no plans to stop.

Why I made it

Wine is one of those subjects that keeps opening up the closer you look: a grape leads to a village, a village to a war, a war to the bottle on your table. I wanted a place where all of that connects, beautiful enough to get lost in and honest enough to trust. Ampelos is my attempt at that place.

What you will find

Grapes and their family trees, regions from country down to appellation, eight thousand years of history, wine routes worth driving, and a glossary for the words that make wine sound harder than it is. Every corner is made with care, and every one is still growing.

Please tell me when I am wrong

I research everything as carefully as I can, but this is one person's work, and wine is a big, argumentative, endlessly surprising subject. If something looks wrong, out of date or missing, I would truly love to hear it: it makes the atlas better for everyone. You can write to me directly through the contact form, and I read every message myself.

How the content was checked, and where it can still be wrong, is on the accuracy page, which also says plainly that the site was built with AI assistance.

Where to begin

Follow whatever you are curious about. If you like to learn, start with Grapes. If you love a good story, read the History. And if you simply have no idea what to pour tonight, the Style finder in Explore will ask a few plain questions and point you somewhere lovely.

Thank you for stopping by. I hope you find something in here that makes your next glass a little more interesting. Cheers.
