Background
Origin & History
Çalkarası is grown in the Denizli area of the Aegean, around the town of Çal. Its wines are light and slightly acidic, with straightforward flavours of strawberry and raspberry and a floral perfume, and it is best known as the grape of fresh rosé.
Like several local varieties, it fell out of fashion when international grapes came to dominate, and it is now being taken up by producers interested in Turkey's native varieties.
