Background

Origin & History

Petit Bouschet was bred in the 1820s by Louis Bouschet from a cross of Aramon and Teinturier du Cher. It gave dark, red-fleshed grapes with far more colour than Aramon, and wine makers used it to darken pale reds. His son Henri crossed it with Grenache in 1866 to make Alicante Bouschet.
