Background

Origin & History

Calabrese Montenuovo is a rare red grape from Campania. Its fame is genetic: a 2007 study led by José Vouillamoz, testing 50 markers, found that Sangiovese is a cross of Ciliegiolo and this variety, and it gave Italy's most planted red grape a southern parent.
