Background

Origin & History

Peloursin comes from Isère, near Grenoble, and its name is thought to come from a local word for the blackthorn. It is almost extinct in France, with small plantings in Victoria, Australia and California; some California vines once thought to be Durif are actually Peloursin. It is the mother of Durif, which François Durif raised from a cross with Syrah in the 1860s.
