Côte de Nuits
Cool continental
The northern half of the Côte d'Or, a thin ribbon of limestone slope that holds nearly all of Burgundy's red Grand Cru vineyards.
Overview
About Côte de Nuits
The Côte de Nuits runs about 20 km from just south of Dijon to Corgoloin, along a narrow east-facing slope. Its villages include Gevrey-Chambertin, Morey-Saint-Denis, Chambolle-Musigny, Vougeot, Vosne-Romanée and Nuits-Saint-Georges, and it is almost entirely planted with Pinot Noir.
Burgundy's most celebrated reds — Romanée-Conti, Chambertin, Musigny — come from here. The wines tend to be more structured and darker-fruited than those of the Côte de Beaune, and are among the longest-lived and most expensive in the world.

Climate
Cool continental
Cool and semi-continental. The slope faces east to catch the morning sun and is sheltered from the west by the hills behind, but frost, hail and rain at harvest are all regular hazards.
Terroir & soils
What the vines grow in
Limestone and clay-limestone, with marl lower down. The mid-slope has the best drainage and is home to the Grand Crus.
