Terms
Terms of use
Ampelos is an independent, one-person project. These are the plain-language terms for using it. By using the site you agree to them.
Last updated October 1, 2026
Who owns the content
The written content, research and data on Ampelos is the original work of its creator: the grape and region descriptions, the lineage data, the historical content, the glossary, the guides, and the way all of it has been selected, compiled and connected. It is protected by copyright and, where it applies, database rights. It may not be reproduced, republished, scraped or redistributed, in whole or in substantial part, without written permission. That includes automated collection of pages or data, and use to build a competing dataset or to train a machine-learning model.
Sharing that is welcome
None of that is meant to get in the way of ordinary sharing. Linking to Ampelos is welcome, and so is quoting a brief excerpt with clear attribution and a link back, and using the site for your own learning, teaching or personal use. The restriction is on bulk reproduction and republishing, not on telling people about it.
Code and content are separate
The code that runs the site and the content and data it displays are governed separately. If the code is ever published under an open-source licence, that licence applies to the code alone. It does not extend to the written content or the compiled data, which stay covered by these terms.
Studio downloads
Studio downloads are free for personal, non-commercial use: print one for your wall, give one as a gift. They may not be sold or resold, in print or as files, and the data credits printed on them must stay.
Information, not advice
Everything on Ampelos is offered for general informational and educational purposes. It is not professional advice of any kind, including medical, health, legal or financial advice. I research carefully, but I cannot promise that everything is complete, current or free of mistakes, and things such as opening hours, prices and availability change. Decisions you make from the site, including travel plans made with the Wine Travel Planner and any purchase, are your own, and Ampelos is provided as it is, without warranties. Alcohol is for adults of legal drinking age, and please drink responsibly.
Links to other sites
Ampelos links to external websites, such as producers, tourism boards and other sources. They are not under my control, and I am not responsible for their content, availability or practices. A link is not an endorsement.
Analytics and your data
Vercel Web Analytics counts page views, and a few anonymous events (finishing the style finder, starting the quiz or a blind tasting, downloading a poster); it uses no cookies, and nothing you type is part of an event.Microsoft Clarity records how visitors use the pages (session recordings and heatmaps), with the text typed into the contact form masked. For visitors in the EEA, the UK and Switzerland, Clarity sets no cookies unless consent is given, and this site has no way to give it, so it sets none for you; elsewhere it may set cookies to join a visit's pages together. If you write through the contact form, your name (optional), email address, subject and message are saved in the site's database and emailed to me through an email service, and are used only to reply. Saved with the message is a hashed fingerprint of your network address, used only to limit how many messages one sender can send in an hour; the address itself is not stored. Clarity does not run on Studio pages, and what you type in Studio stays in your browser: it is never sent to Ampelos or stored. For questions, or to ask me to delete a message you sent, please write through the contact form.
Questions and concerns
If you have a legal or content concern, including a request to correct or remove something you believe should not be here, or if you would like permission to reuse something, please write through the contact form. I read every message myself and will respond as soon as I can.
I may update these terms from time to time. The date above shows when they last changed.
