Arka plan
Köken ve tarih
Furmint is the principal grape of Tokaj, in north-eastern Hungary, where its thin skins and high acidity favour botrytis. The sweet Tokaji Aszú is made by adding botrytised berries, measured in puttonyos, to base wine, and it was famous in European courts from the 17th century.
Since the 1990s, Tokaj producers have made dry Furmint that shows the grape's mineral, volcanic character. It is also grown in Austria's Burgenland, where it is called Mosler.
